A Journey of Dance

Carmyn’s dance journey started at age 8 with a local Diversity Dance group where she learned folk dances from around the world and performed them for students in both Los Angeles and Seoul, South Korea. She began formal dance training in Russian Ballet at the Marat Dukayev School of Ballet For five years, whle Simultaneously studying modern and contemporary privately with Kemba Shannon. This training led her to attend the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she studied with legends, such as Ka-Ron Lehman, Erica Robson, Denise Leitner, Wendy Lawson, and Alvin Ailey founding member Don Martin. It was here that she would discover her parallel loves of acting and musical theatre.

Carmyn’s skills and passion have allowed her to dance with L.A. Opera’s "Brundibar" at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, a soloist in “The Nutcracker” at the Japanese American Theater, ensemble in “Urinetown“ at the Los Angeles theater center, and even as a SHARP Cheerleader for the halftime show at The Staples Center. She has also performed in short films, pieces by local dance companies, and passion projects. Among her best-known work is Buzzfeed’s “If You Have a Secret…” (an exploration of our deep-seated need to speak our truth), which she danced and co-choreographed.

As new projects emerge with time, Carmyn is excited to see what comes next for her in the world of dance. In the meanwhile, she will keep on dancing and aims to be a beacon of light in the world in every way she can.
